New Media : Non-technical, inclusive (9/27)

Digital, digitalized things produce images. They can be divided in to two. Visionary image(physical), and sensory image(non-physical). Visoinary image is a picture. Just physicaly. It is just what we see with our eyes, not with our thoughts. On the other hand sensory image is a image looking with our head.

Similiar to this, there is pure medium and intermedium.The pure medium is a pure medium as it says. It dosen't have a meaning on it. But intermedium, where inter is similiar to new, have a meaning on it.

For instance, a music which is just a music having no meanings on it can be turned to intermedium when people use it by giving a meaning on it.

Also I think the medium can be seen as both pure and inter medium with just a change of thoughts. TV can be seen as a pure medium. But it can be many other different inter medium. Some people could think TV is for entertainment, while some other people think it is for education. With a different thoughts a same medium can be seen as different intermedium.

It's just my thought about todays class..

What is "New Media"?! (9/20)

What is the word 'new' in New Media?

There are many ways to approach to the word 'new'.
But this time in class the word 'new' meant 'better', with the help of technology.

The high developed technology made the world horizental.
Such as internet, computer, programing..

Internet made us a chance to communicate with the people all over the world.
When I was a child, when living abroad having many foriegn freinds, I couldn't get in contect with them, when I came back to my country.
But if I could had used the internet I might be in contect with them.
Also by internet the horizen was made in education. Many students could study by internet. For example, Megastudy.

By development of computer and programing, there became horizental between artist and engineer.
We saw a video, 'da Vinci project'. It was about the collapse between the artist and the engineer.
With the use of computer and programming the artist began to make arts more technogically. Not just drawing a picture, or making a sculpture, they use computers and make much more sets of arts.

When I first came into this university.. majoring Media, I didn't know why we had to study art and computer programming. I just felt that I couldn't be experts in both things because there are peolpe who are majoring arts, and people who are majoring computer sciences.

Before I felt the two as a seperate things. But now I found out by studying arts and computers, I can produce 'new things'!!!
We always try to make and find new. Now I'm begining to think about new. What new is and how to approach to the 'new'.

Is art important? What is art? (9/11)

There was a class on aesthetics last Tuesday.

Is art important? What is art eventually?

If you look up a dictionary you can find out the 'aesthetics' means a branch of philosophy concerned with the study of the idea of beauty.

Well.. I think art is a way to express one's feeling as well as to communicate with others.
Whether the art is shown as a western way or in an asian way, art tells person's thoughts, feelings, and what he/she have experienced and learned(these can be effected by the environments around us).

The base of the aesthetics these days is westernized.
But I think it is not so important whether it is in western or in asian. They both have the same point in some how. They both are a way to express and to communicate.

Once, in a 'media communicating' class a professor gave each team a picture and told us to wright down what we see and wright down how the person in the picture feels. There were many differnet answers even though it was a same picture.
Which means everyone have different thoughts and feelings which leads to have different communication with art. Also the artist might have had different thought with us too.

This winter I have been to many art museums. There were many pictures. I didn't know what the pictures meant. I as well as my friend had our own thoughts and feelings while looking at the pictures. But later listening to the explaination of the picture mostly it was totally different. Also I and my friend had different communication with the pictures.

So I think for the artist, art is a way to express his/her thinkings and feelings. And for the person who sees the art, it is a way to communicate with the artist and to think about his/her feeling.

The main idea of art in western and eastern is same but just have a differnet style. So nobody can say western art is better or eastern art is better.

Art it self have it's own philosophy and aesthetics.
With that we can communicate.
I can say art is one of the media.

이번에 매체미학이라는 과목을 듣게되었다

영어로 수업을 하는 수업은 이번이 처음이어서 설레이기도하고 재미있을 것 같다.
이번학기도 화이팅하자~
